My two dogs are rescued pittie mixes, and they're proof of everything wrong with how this breed gets talked about. They're gentle, loyal, and goofy — nothing like the stereotype so many people assume the moment they see a blocky head or a wagging pittie tail. That stigma is exactly why I started volunteering with The Love Pit this year.
I didn't expect it to change me the way it has. Since I started helping out at HQ, with iREHOME, and at events, I've seen up close what this organization actually does — and it's so much bigger than "rescue" in the traditional sense. I've watched families get help so they don't have to give up a dog they love. I've seen owners find safe, responsible new homes for dogs they truly couldn't keep anymore, without that dog ever setting foot in a shelter. I've met dogs at HQ who get real care, real training, real love — not just a kennel to wait in.
This North Texas Giving Day, The Love Pit is raising money for the programs that make all of this possible:
🏡 iSTAYHOME — helping families through short-term hardship so they don't lose their dogs for good.
🐾 iREHOME — helping owners rehome dogs safely and responsibly, without a shelter ever entering the picture.
❤️ THRIVE — covering the emergency care, surgeries, and treatment that give the toughest medical cases a real shot at healing.
🏠 HQ — a real home base where dogs get daily care and enrichment while they wait for their forever family, and where volunteers, adopters, and our community come together.
I've seen firsthand how much of a difference this work makes — for the dogs, and for the families who love them. Bully breeds face barriers no other dogs do, simply because of how they look. The Love Pit has spent 11+ years proving that wrong, and I'm proud to be part of it now.
If my pups have ever made you smile, or if you've ever loved a dog the world was too quick to judge, I'm asking you to give what you can this Giving Day. Every dollar helps keep a family together, keep a dog out of a shelter, or give a dog the medical care they need to heal.
Because ALL bully breeds belong. And together, we're going to keep proving it.
