Maintaining and updating a building as seasoned as ours always has us on our toes.

Our building was built in the 1940’s. She was a church before she was our theatre and frankly she has earned her moans and groans. It seems each year she gives us a new project. In recent years we have replaced the roof, replaced 1 of 2 HVAC units, added spray foam insulation to the attic, and replaced plumbing pipes in front of our building.

Recently, we have discovered that we were not immune to the spring storms last year and our roof needs to be replaced. We did this about 3 years ago and with this being so soon we would like to upgrade to a  more durable material that could weather the unpredictable and strong Texas weather that we experience. Unfortunately for us, the cost to do this is estimated at twice the cost of just the regular replacement.

We also have aim to replace our doors. With the exception of one door at the theatre, all of our doors are traditional locks. We're long past due to update our doors so that we're able to lock the doors from the outside but easily exit the building. The best way to do this is to replace all of our doors with ones that have push bars on the inside for easy exit. This will keep everyone inside our building safe in the event of an emergency, especially the kids that are in our space during kids camp and the kids show.

The quote we've received would replace the remaining two back doors (our green room door and the one on the south side of the building) with new doors with push bars. It would also retrofit our front door with an emergency push bar, which would also close the gap that is currently between our front doors, also helping to seal those doors.

Any funding we receive helps offset the costs for us and prevents us from having to reduce our programming or opportunities for the public to learn and grow in theatre.
