Why this matters now:

Across North Texas, elderly African immigrants and refugees—survivors of war, displacement, and loss—face steep barriers: language, isolation, limited access to health care, and financial vulnerability. Many arrived with little support and now rely on faith communities for basic needs. ALARM’s Immigrant & Refugee Family Services meets these elders where they are, restoring their dignity, safety, and sense of belonging.

The need:

We are requesting $7,400 to support 22 elderly immigrants and refugees identified by the congregations at St. Patrick Catholic Church (Dallas), Bethel Lutheran Church (Dallas), the African Missionary Congregation of Dallas, and the Episcopal Church of Garland.

How your gift will be used:

  • Health & Wellness Services — $2,600
Provide culturally tailored health literacy workshops, trauma-informed counseling referrals, and medical navigation support so elders can understand care instructions, access mental-health resources, follow treatment plans, and reclaim resilience after conflict.

  • Relief & Financial Assistance — $2,500
Supply essential food and medicine, short-term emergency support, and financial coaching to help elders stretch limited resources and avoid fraud or exploitation—immediately protecting their wellbeing and independence.

  • Get Outside, Recreation & Social Life — $2,300
Fund safe, regular social and outdoor activities—walking groups, gardening, outings, and family visits—that reduce isolation, improve physical health, lower blood pressure, boost mood, and strengthen community bonds.

What this achieves:

Your donation will deliver immediate, measurable benefits: fewer missed medical appointments, stabilized access to food and medication, reduced loneliness and depression, stronger family relationships, and safer finances. Beyond services, donors help restore dignity to elders whose lives were disrupted by violence—enabling them to heal, thrive, and contribute to the cultural fabric of North Texas.

Donate now to enable ALARM to deliver these vital services to vulnerable elders in our North Texas faith communities. Together we can turn compassion into practical care—and help survivors of conflict find home and hope here.
