Through our education ambassadors, we introduce people to the fascinating world of raptors. Nigel, our Turkey Vulture, is the newest member of the team, arriving last November. He was found in Kentucky severely emaciated and taken to a rehabilitation clinic. Unfortunately, Nigel had imprinted on humans at a young age—meaning people had fed and cared for him, unintentionally teaching him to rely on humans for food instead of developing the survival skills he needed to live in the wild.

Thankfully, Nigel was rescued in time and has since found his permanent home with us at Blackland Prairie Raptor Center.

Our raptor ambassadors allow us to connect with audiences, share the importance of raptors in our ecosystem, and teach ways we can protect their wild counterparts. Imprinting is a common issue that often comes from people wanting to help but not knowing the harm it can cause. That’s why extending the reach of our educational programming is so critical.

Nigel will remain with us for life, and with your support, we can ensure that he—and all of our education ambassadors—receive the highest level of care.
