Your donation to Rescue Me helps support our efforts to reduce the overpopulation of stray and feral cats through Trap-Neuter-Return. This is a humane method of addressing overpopulation through the humane trapping and treating of the animals.
Learn more about TNR through a success story highlighting the work of Rescue Me volunteers and members of the community in Old Town Lewisville.
The Story of the Ash Street Colony
In early 2024, longtime Old Town Lewisville resident Karen Cross recognized that the local stray cat population was expanding beyond control. Cats were fighting, spreading disease, and overtaking residents’ yards and driveways. Determined to find a humane solution, she reached out to Rescue Me for assistance with TNR efforts.
Karen wasn’t alone in her advocacy. She gained support from her 11-year-old neighbor Gentry, and together they went door-to-door to educate residents on the importance of TNR. Though hesitant at first, the community rallied behind the initiative—stopping outdoor feeding to encourage cats to enter humane live traps and allowing Rescue Me to step in with life-saving interventions.
By July 2024, volunteer Chandra Christensen joined the effort, fostering kittens born in the colony for adoption and continuing trapping efforts.
The Impact of Our Work
💙 100+ feral cats spayed/neutered, preventing thousands of future homeless kittens
💙 12 kittens from the colony adopted into loving homes, ensuring they wouldn’t have to struggle outdoors
💙 $10,000 invested in life-saving medical care, made possible by Rescue Me through community donations and partnerships with Operation Kindness, Texas Coalition for Animal Protection (TCAP), and Petco Love Foundation grants
💙 Hundreds of residents educated, creating lasting change in how the community approaches feral cat welfare
How You Can Help
This success was only possible because of community support. But the work is far from over—countless feral cat colonies across North Texas still need help.
Your donation allows Rescue Me to continue providing:
💙 $25 – One month of probiotic food support for a rescued cat
💙 $50 – Full vaccination series for an adoptable kitten
💙 $100 – A vet visit for a sick or injured cat
💙 $250 – A spay/neuter procedure for a feral cat
💙 $500 – Lifesaving treatments for injured or ill cats
Every dollar makes a difference. Join us in creating lasting change—donate today and help Rescue Me continue its life-saving work! 🐾
