At the end of December, Fort Worth’s only remaining Shakespeare company, Stolen Shakespeare Guild will be homeless. SSG is committed to preserving and enriching our community through the celebration and preservation of classic theater – classics in any genre. Over the past almost 20 years, SSG has delivered consistent, critically praised productions at an affordable cost that makes them much more accessible to all of Fort Worth’s citizens. I have been part of the Board of Directors for almost 6 years now and was an actor in several of my most favorite productions to date. SSG survived Covid, brought on our first full-time employee (Artistic Director Jason Morgan) in 2021, and today is financially healthy despite the downturn many theaters have taken in recent years. We have a unique offering to the community that must be saved.
The Fort Worth Arts Center, our home for over a decade, will be redeveloping that space with unknown function and timeline. We have been expecting this for some time now, but were surprised last month at the much-faster-than-anticipated move-out date. We need to find a new space to lease or buy and renovate in the Fort Worth City Limits. We are also looking at interim spaces and partnerships. But regardless, we will need help to set up somewhere new. Any amount will help, from $5 to $500,000 (which is the overall goal). Please donate today!
