Hip Pocket Theatre’s puppetry arts workshop engages with across the Fort Worth area and opens them to the art of puppetry. Puppetry offers a wide range of developmental, creative, and therapeutic benefits to all ages of learners. Through this hands-on creative experience, participants will learn a variety of puppetry skills including building techniques that introduce mechanisms for puppet movement, art material exploration, and how to make puppets express emotion and share story. Puppets come to life through movement and we will explore in our own bodies various ways to move, connecting descriptive language to physical action to identify line, shape, and texture. This physical exploration can be a bridge that connects movement to language. Puppetry is a gateway to communication by offering the participants new ways of expressing themselves by bringing an inanimate object to life and sharing emotion through the puppet- Puppetry can be a verbal or a non verbal form of expression and therefore it can meet the participant at whatever level of comfort they have with language. Hip Pocket has a long history of utilizing puppetry in our productions and we understand the power that puppetry has to enrich storytelling, and bring joy and awe to an audience and all that encounter it.
