Catch up and Read

Catch Up & Read (CAR) is a nonprofit organization that was established in 2009. CAR has a mission to equip children to read on grade level by the end of 3rd grade, which is shown to put them on a much more likely path to graduate from high school. By leveraging data and science to determine literacy practices, CAR has developed a proven program to train existing teachers in the participating schools. CAR also provides these teachers a stipend to support the extra hours and efforts they commit to engage in this movement for literacy. Currently, CAR partners with over 20 underperforming DISD schools and has trained 160 teachers and reached over 1,000 students in 2025 alone.
