Founded in 1994, STARS Theater Company teaches performance and leadership skills to young people. We believe in the words of Benjamin Franklin - "Tell me something and I'll forget it. Teach me and I might remember some of it. Involve me and I'll remember it." STARS is unique in that every interested student is cast in our productions. The staff believes that all interested students can find a place to excel in STARS. The professional staff includes: Director, Lu Anne Tyson, with a Master's Degree in Theater Arts; Voice Instructor, Andrea Yenne; and choreographer, Shannon May. STARS students come from a variety of backgrounds with a wide range of experience levels, yet they all have an opportunity to excel. Some develop into great performers while others find their place as young leaders. STARS is proud of our former students currently seeking degrees in theater arts in universities across the country. Several STARS are working in the New York, Chicago, and Austin theater and film communities. STARS is also proud to have students working as theater directors in high schools and middle schools in the north Texas area. Many former students have used the skills developed on the STARS stage to find success as businessmen, lawyers, real estate brokers, and even politics.
Mission
STARS Theater Company provides education, professional guidance, training and experience in theater arts to young people in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
Needs
STARS needs a new digital piano to use in rehearsals and performances. The cost is expected to be $800. STARS is also seeking funds to help with production expenses for our Fall and Winter Youth Musicals. Production expenses for the two musicals are expected to be $9100. Finally, STARS is searching for a new theater facility that can be used as a 150 seat performance and rehearsal space for our youth productions. We are currently checking available land and facilities in the Mid Cities area.
