Needs

Every year, countless infants and young children become victims of severe, preventable trauma. Abusive Head Trauma (AHT), commonly known as Shaken Baby Syndrome, is the leading cause of injury-related death and long-term disability in children under five. This devastating form of physical violence against children occurs most frequently between the ages of three and six months—the exact period when infant crying peaks.

When a caregiver is pushed to their limit by a crying infant and lacks healthy coping mechanisms, tragedy can strike in a matter of seconds. The damage is profound and lifelong, leaving survivors to cope with severe brain injuries, developmental delays, and permanent disabilities.

Filling a Critical Gap in Care

The Shaken Baby Alliance steps directly into the painful void left in the wake of these tragedies. While general child welfare resources exist, our organization fills a highly specialized service gap by providing long-term, trauma-informed care for families in acute crisis and year-round forensic readiness training for those seeking justice.

We cannot do this vital work without the support of our community. Your generosity allows us to provide all of our specialized programs completely free of charge to families navigating their darkest days.

Below is a breakdown of how your financial partnership directly addresses this service gap and delivers immediate relief, safety tools, and justice:

$25: Early Intervention Education Deploys specialized emotional regulation and coping materials for community students. This prepares the next generation of caregivers with foundational stress-management tools.

$50: Direct Crisis Prevention Equips an at-risk parent with an individualized crying plan to safely de-escalate crisis moments. This directly mitigates the number-one trigger for Abusive Head Trauma in the home.

$75: Immediate Family Relief Delivers emergency provisions and essential supplies directly to a family in acute crisis, stabilizing a household navigating the sudden, overwhelming aftermath of physical abuse.

$125: Critical Medical & Developmental Care Secures vital medical and developmental essentials (such as specialized formula and diapers) for a young survivor, alleviating the immediate financial strain on families caring for a profoundly injured child.

$250: Systemic Justice & Accountability Sustains the advanced forensic tools and training required for law enforcement and medical personnel, empowering first responders to accurately investigate cases and champion justice for non-verbal infants.

Equity Statement

Grounded in our primary office at One Safe Place in Fort Worth, Texas, SBA provides free, trauma-informed services wherever they are needed most to ensure that geographic or economic barriers never stand in the way of a family's healing.

We maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy for any form of discrimination, mistreatment, or hate. We believe that true equity means building an organization that mirrors the diverse fabric of our community and ensures that every voice is amplified in the fight against physical violence against children. Our unwavering commitment to diversity is put into practice every day through our organizational culture and community outreach:

Representative & Experienced Leadership: Diversity and equal opportunity guide every staff hire and board recruitment effort. Reflecting our deep personal connection to this cause, both our Executive Director and a Board Member are parents of children affected by Abusive Head Trauma (AHT).

Bilingual & Local Staffing: Our team is deeply embedded in the community we protect. All of our staff members live locally in Fort Worth, and 40% of our team is Hispanic and bilingual, ensuring we can provide immediate, culturally competent care.

Removing Language Barriers: To ensure that life-saving prevention tools reach every family, our core COPE prevention education materials are fully developed and delivered in both English and Spanish.

By prioritizing representation, removing barriers to access, and leading with deep empathy, we work daily to create a safer, more equitable world where every child is protected, and every family is supported.

Operational Efficiency Note: In line with our commitment to maximizing donor resources, the Shaken Baby Alliance utilizes advanced organizational tools, including artificial intelligence, to streamline administrative and drafting processes. This allows our team to minimize administrative desk time and maximize our focus on delivering free, timely services to victims and their families, collaborating with multidisciplinary professionals, and providing critical prevention programs to at-risk communities. All data, metrics, and organizational statements are strictly verified and managed by our local leadership.
