Rainbow Days mission is to help children and youth in adversity build coping skills and resilience to create positive futures. By creating meaningful connections with children and youth in high-risk situations through caring adult mentors and instilling in children vital skills, Rainbow Days is breaking negative cycles, creating lasting change, and building a positive future for children and youth.

While many services and support groups were available for adults’ overcoming addiction in the early ’80s, no services existed at that time for the children of those adults. In order to fill this gap, Rainbow Days was founded in Dallas in 1982. Its core program, the support group model, was created to teach children coping and decision-making skills and to offer them emotional support. This successful and effective support group model went on to become the nationally recognized Curriculum-Based Support Group (CBSG®) Program, a unique, multicultural, evidence-based substance abuse prevention and intervention program.

Forty years later, Rainbow Days has expanded to offer an array of substance abuse prevention, social-emotional learning (SEL) and life-enrichment programs, including summer camps, educational presentations and mentoring activities. These serve not only children of parents with alcoholism but also those ages 4-17 who are experiencing challenges such as poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, familial incarceration or substance abuse. Through partnerships with 60+ local schools, shelters, juvenile detention centers and other community-based sites, Rainbow Days has served over 250,000 vulnerable children and youth across Dallas County. Rainbow Days furthers its impact through Rainbow Days Training, in which trained facilitators bring the CBSG® curricula to children in communities across the United States and around the world.

Rainbow Days provides skills and support to children experiencing adversity through three core programs: Community Connection and Family Connection which benefit children directly in Dallas and Training which expands our impact beyond Dallas by training others in how to implement Rainbow Days support group with children in communities throughout Texas and the U.S.
