About Us

Parker Paws was founded in 2007 by Barbara Pursley as a shelter volunteer group. In 2012, we went out on our own as an independent animal rescue to expand our ability to save more lives across North Texas.

Through the years, our primary intake focus was owner surrenders to offer the community an alternative to the shelter and helping to reduce shelter overcrowding. Our intake was and will always be limited by available resources – funds and foster homes.

During this time in our history, we held pride in ourselves in adopting fully vetted, family-friendly pets who do well in diverse homes. Our foster pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped prior to adoption.

As a foster-based rescue; we do not have a facility, and we are not a shelter. All of our foster pets are kept in homes with families, and, in many cases, other pets. We provide our foster homes with all supplies and ensure our foster pets receive appropriate medical care prior to adoption. Many pets only need the basics, e.g., age-appropriate vetting, including wormer, vaccines (including rabies), microchip, spay/neuter and start them on heartworm and flea prevention.  Others come to us injured and in need of major medical care.

Realizing that rescue is just a band-aid, we have expanded our services to include community outreach programs to help reduce shelter overcrowding and companion pet overpopulation.  We partner with area vet clinics to offer low-cost microchip clinics to help reunite pets with owners more quickly and reduce shelter overcrowding.

In 2020, SNIP (Spay Neuter Incentive Program) was born to help our overwhelmed shelter and community in a different way. By offering low/no-cost spay/neuters to pet owners who cannot otherwise afford it for their pets, we are helping to end pet overpopulation and shelter overcrowding. Every pet spayed equals 15 possible offspring per year not being born!

The success of SNIP has Parker Paws evolving into an animal welfare group. Rescue will play a lesser role in our future as we place a greater focus on helping to reduce our community’s pet overpopulation problem. In 2023, our SNIP goal is to Spay/Neuter 240 community pets.

Through our SNIP program, Parker Paws offers low-cost/no-cost spays/neuters ranging from $0-$20, to the community and sponsors the remaining balance ranging from $80-$100 to our partnered vet clinics. (***Fees waived for approximately 50% of applicants )

We open a limited amount of SNIP applications every month. Our SNIP team qualifies each application and pet submitted.

Applicants who are eligible, pay $0 for their pets' sterilization. Parker Paws pays the full amount to the vet partner. This amount averages at $100 per pet.

Applicants who fall outside the eligibility requirements will pay $20 for their pets' sterilization. Parker Paws will pay the remaining balance to the vet partner. This averages at $80 per pet.

All applicants are required to have their pets up-to-date with a rabies certificate. Parker Paws does not pay for this vaccine or any additional services at this time. (***NOTE: If they cannot afford the rabies vaccine, Parker Paws will cover the cost.)
