Our Vision is that all students, no matter their resources, have access to an engaging, hands-on education that transforms their lives. Out Teach puts students on the path to be lifelong learners, and college and career ready, during the critical elementary years.
Out Teach is an education non-profit that harnesses the power of outdoor spaces to unlock student performance with the power of experiential learning. We are fundamentally shifting the traditional teaching paradigm to support student-driven experiential learning, using Outdoor Learning Labs as our vehicle for student success. Our mission and goals surround education equity and working to create thriving school communities for all children, regardless of background, through innovative and transformational shifts in traditional educational practice.
Our model is two-pronged: We build dynamic outdoor classrooms with unique cross-curricular learning features, in partnership with our corporate volunteers. We then train and inspire the teachers to effectively use the space for academic instruction. Our model increases student engagement through student-driven, inquiry-based learning and fosters important 21st century skills like collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving. Much of our program centers on STEM with a goal of putting students from all backgrounds on a path to be college and career-ready with the skills needed for the dynamic careers of the future.
Out Teach is on a mission to inspire and prepare today’s elementary students to become the next generation of fearless innovators and leaders. Our model - designed by teachers, for teachers - equips elementary educators in underserved schools with the coaching, resources, and ongoing support to bring science to life for their students, ultimately inspiring new ideas, pursuits, and pathways to equity. We’re building a future where every student experiences teaching and learning in a way that forever prepares them to move through the world undaunted by challenges and passionate about new possibilities.
Your gift to Out Teach helps us prepare a generation of diverse leaders prepared to step into critical STEM jobs and tackle the problems of the future.
STEM skills–covering science, technology, engineering and math–are already important in today’s workforce. Imagine how much more important they’ll be in the future. There’s a reason science comes first in the STEM acronym. Studies have shown that science education fosters problem solving, critical thinking, and collaboration skills that carry over into real life. Still, the average elementary student receives only 18 minutes of science instruction per day. By the 6th grade, students know what they’re interested in. But what happens if they’ve never had a chance to get excited about science?
Our vision is to ensure all students, no matter their resources, have access to an engaging, hands-on education that transforms their lives. If we are to achieve this vision, we need to continue to invest in our strategic plan to inspire and prepare more than 250,000 elementary students to become tomorrow’s fearless innovators. How? By training more than 10,000 teachers to make real-world science a part of every school day. Your investment helps us prioritize:
1. Elevating science education. There’s no shortage of research showing that science provides a powerful lens for students to engage with every subject, from math to reading, and language arts. Every school partnership translates into evidence-based support for the impact outdoor, hands-on learning can have well into the future.
2. Innovating to go further. From creating digital learning experiences for teachers to building out customizable resource libraries and developing replicable models, we prioritize innovations that pave the way for greater impact and broader, national reach and scale.
3. Powering lasting change to create systemic change that sticks. By building an evidence base that demonstrates that early science improves teaching and learning across the board, we enable an education system that creates real opportunities for all students to access science when it matters most for their futures - early on.
Out Teach is built on the fact that new and different experiences add knowledge and perspectives help everyone grow and succeed. We embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion practices not only because they are morally important, but also because these efforts strengthen our organization so that we may better serve our partners and move them toward their goals. We become stronger, more innovative, more efficient, and responsive, and better able to navigate new challenges when individuals from diverse races, ethnicities, viewpoints, experiences, physical abilities, economic backgrounds, genders, and sexual identities and orientations share their experiences, and we all listen, value, and learn from one another. At Out Teach, the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion guide our staffing, partnership, and strategic decisions every day. It is the way we are meant to be: Ourselves, Fair, and Present.
