Our Needs

While our schools are funded according to school district guidelines, YWPN partners with community donors to provide crucial college readiness programs to ENHANCE the school district curriculum at our network of schools. This public-private partnership leverages the public school dollar to maximize the potential of public education. Our College Bound Program provides targeted summer, after-school, and year-round programs that focus on rigorous academic preparation, increasing the girls' interest in STEM subjects, developing workforce skills, and improving leadership and self-confidence. Through these initiatives the girls are empowered to break the cycle of poverty by ensuring they are exceptionally prepared to persist in and graduate from college.

Key components include:

College Bound Advising Program: Our College Advising programming fosters a culture of college awareness on campus. Through a full-time, campus-based College Advisor, college-readiness workshops for students and parents, SAT/ACT test preparation, and guidance through the college admissions and financial aid processes, the program shows the girls that a college education can be a reality instead of an unattainable dream.

College Readiness: Extended-learning opportunities offer targeted summer, after-school, and year-round programs that focus on academic rigor, curriculum enhancements, developing the girls' interest in STEM subjects, and career exploration.

Leadership: YWPN's educational model provides a holistic approach to educating the whole girl ensuring our students graduate academically and socially-emotionally prepared for collegiate success. The importance of developing leadership skills in low-income girls cannot be underestimated. Through leadership development programs and opportunities, our girls become strong leaders who are agents of change in their families and communities.

Mission

The mission of Young Women's Preparatory Network is to support single-gender, college-preparatory, public education in Texas and beyond, giving young women the academic and leadership skills to achieve success in college and in life.

Equity Statement

At Young Women's Preparatory Network (YWPN), most of our students are people of color who come from low-income households where oftentimes they are the first in their families to graduate high school and attend college. Racism is, unfortunately, something they have experienced firsthand their entire young lives. We stand against all manners of racism and social inequity. As educators, we work to end systemic racism to prevent intolerance and bigotry so our students, and others, can work to build a world where race does not dictate health, longevity, safety, or success in life. Through our voices and actions, we will be part of the solution.
