Wylie Community Band began in 2016 and is under the direction of Dr. Ross Grant. The band is a volunteer organization of enthusiastic musicians ranging from recreational players to professionals, 16 to 80+ years of age. We perform 6 to 7 programs a year, with a variety of music including jazz, Broadway show tunes, marches, and classic band repertoire. The band also has smaller groups which have performed in smaller venues, such as assisted living facilities and community events. The band has been designated the Official Community Band of the City of Wylie.
As part of our educational outreach, the band co-sponsors an annual "Wylie in the Meyerson" - a joint series of performances in the Morton Meyerson Symphony Center each spring. The all-day event features more than 800 choral and instrumental student musicians from WISD, along with the Wylie Community Band and Wylie Jazz Band. Our next "Wylie in the Meyerson" program will be Saturday, March 1, 2025.
