We want to make a difference

Weimaraner Rescue of Texas is an organization of volunteers who will go to all lengths to save Weimaraners.  The dogs come to us from shelters, surrendering owners, the streets and even ditches in rural areas.  Our team of volunteers is deeply committed to helping Weimaraners in need - no matter their circumstances.

Our rescue provides all of the necessary resources to save the lives of these gentle and loyal companions and give them the happiness they deserve.

All of our volunteers love the breed and are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of the dogs that we are able to save through the rescue.

Whatever it takes

We provide full medical support for every Weimaraner that comes into the rescue with very few limits.  This includes:

•    Preventative care, such as vaccines, heart worm preventative and flea and tick preventative

•    All vet costs including spay or neuter, costs to restore function, costs to cure diseases such as cancer, parvo, distemper, etc.

•    Behavioral rehabilitation/training

•    Emergency care

WRT HAS SPENT OVER $285,000 TO CARE FOR THE DOGS JUST IN THIS PAST FISCAL YEAR!

A new start for every Weimaraner

Weimaraners are a very misunderstood breed, they have very specific exercise and training requirements and they are not a good fit for everyone. Many of the dogs that come into our program are surrendered by families that don’t have the time or home environments that the dogs need. We help them transition from their current families to ones that are better suited for them.  In the right home, these dogs are wonderful loving pets.

Our rescue dedicates resources to give the dogs a safe, secure, and loving foster environment for physical rehabilitation as well as training for behavioral rehabilitation if needed.  A new start and a forever home.

Unique to WRT is our forever foster program. Senior dogs and those with terminal ailments do come into rescue. They are labeled forever fosters and will live in one home with all costs completely covered by Weimaraner Rescue of Texas for all of their days. We love our forever fosters and spare no expense on their care and comfort.

How to help

Weimaraner Rescue of Texas operates 100% on donations from generous and kind people who want to make a difference. Every penny of our donations pay for veterinary care, food, and essential expenses.

We depend on donations to fund the constant stream of incoming Weimaraners needing care, as well as manpower to provide foster care, transport, and administrative support for the rescue, including help with marketing, grant writing, events and fundraising.

Donate and make a difference today

Your help will get us through the always busy holiday season.

We are counting on North Texas Giving Day to help us continue to answer the countless phone calls and emails we will receive about Weims in need.  We want to provide the dogs with the medical care they need and the homes they deserve.

We appreciate the outpouring of support that we have received so far - not just money, but people opening their homes for these dogs, helping to transport them, and buying Amazon wish list items.

THANK YOU for considering our rescue for your support on North Texas Giving Day!!!

Mission

Our mission is the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of Weimaraners from animal shelters, found stray, abandoned, neglected and abused. We educate the public on responsible pet ownership, and promote spay/neuter. We are dedicated to end the tragedy of pet over-population by opposing puppy mills, pet stores selling live animals, and irresponsible over-breeding of companion animals.

Needs

Weimaraner Rescue of Texas continues to see an increase in the number of Weims in shelters and owner- surrendered. We have already taken more dogs into rescue at the end of this August than all of 2022.

More dogs meant more vetting and training costs for the dogs. Administrative costs have remained relatively flat. Cash needs for the rescue increased from $21,000 to just under $24,000 monthly. Every little bit helps. From the bottom of our hearts, we appreciate you helping out these special dogs.
