Friends of the Trinity Strand Trail

A nonprofit organization

The Friends of the Trinity Strand Trail holds true to our project goal of building a 7.8-mile non-motorized hike and bike commuter and recreational trail which will connect the Katy Trail to the Trinity River and Medical District. This trail will also provide Dallas citizens access to the Southwestern Medical District, Dallas Market Center, Stemmons Corridor businesses and the Dallas Design District. We plan to make even greater connections to the other trails of Dallas in short time.

Our Needs

The Friends of The Trinity Strand Trail currently needs funding and support for administration to oversee the construction of Ph. 2 and begin an exciting update to Ph. 3 plans for funding. The Friends of the Trinity Strand Trail are in the process of turning a blighted public works sump into active green space that will function as a public park, regional hike and bike trail, and environmental restoration project. Once our project is complete, we will connect over 73 miles of trail. Most importantly, we will help alleviate the congestion thus improving the safety on our city's busiest trails. We have raised $19M in funding and $4M in land donations. However, these funds are earmarked for design and construction of the trail. After years of perseverance and commitment, we see that we can make a difference, but we need financial support to administer the project and maintain our trail.

We have received City funding and support to begin construction on Ph. 2 of the trail which will connect to the Inwood DART Station via an enhanced and protected bike lane along Market Center Boulevard. Current needs are funding to update our master plan to recognize opportunities to connect bridges across the Trinity Strand and build a trail on the opposite side of the waterway as well as add additional features to the trail as voted on by our very own Dallas citizens. We seek to make additions to our trail such as: lighting, trail signage, murals, flowers, trees and vegetation--per your input!

Our mission is to connect historic and urban Dallas through a non-motorized, recreational trail. We seek to connect people to nature and recreation from within the Design District of Dallas, connecting The Katy Trail to The Trinity River and to The Southwestern Medical District, interconnecting the Dallas Market Center, downtown and Uptown Dallas and the Stemmons Corridor businesses.
