TexProtects strengthens Texas families to prevent child abuse and neglect.

We believe every child has the right to a safe, nurturing childhood. That’s why TexProtects advocates for policy that protects children from abuse and empowers families to thrive.

Established in 2004, TexProtects has successfully steered 54 pieces of legislation to passage and secured over $267 million in state funding for community programs that reach over 67,000 families annually through home visiting and parenting programs that strengthen family functioning and ensure successful child development.

Last year, there were 53,543 confirmed cases of child abuse in Texas. That is an average of 146 children every day.

Texas children deserve better. 43%, or over 4 of every 10, of the calls to the statewide intake hotline did not meet the definition of abuse/neglect these calls may pertain to families in need of support. These are families where supportive services from a community-based organization would be more appropriate and would help them avoid a crisis or neglectful situation.

With your support, TexProtects:

  1. Advocates for policies and system transformations that put Texas families first.
  2. Raises awareness of evidence-based and preventative solutions.
  3. Supports professionals in delivering programs that strengthen families.
  4. Ensures families and communities are connected to needed support services and resources.
  5. Convenes partners and allies in creating a strong prevention ecosystem in our state.
