Texas German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue

German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue of North Texas, Inc., doing business as Texas GSP Rescue, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that places abandoned GSPs in safe, loving homes. We are not a shelter and have no kennel facility. Any dog taken in by our program must have a foster home for the duration of the dog's stay with us before placement in a permanent adoptive home. We are 100% reliant upon volunteers, fosters and donors to save dogs. As space permits, we cover the entire state of Texas and are the only GSP Rescue working in Texas. As space permits, we also do our best to cover intake in Louisiana and Oklahoma. 

Our Needs

This year we need your help more than ever!  

*The week of 9/7/23  we took in 5 GSP's from South Texas area that were left severely emaciated and several with severe demodex. We are calling them the FAB Five!  They have all arrived at their foster homes and are in the care of our rescue vets.  Despite the awful condition they were found in each one is a happy pup!  See their photos below in our gallery of how they looked upon intake.  We can't wait to see their photos after healing and being in a foster home and not outside 24/7.   The FAB FIVE are: Lacey, Hera,Phoenix, George and Cooper! Be on the lookout for new pics of them that will be shared on 9/21. 

* We have two GSP's right now with specific behavior issues that are getting professional help.

* Week of 9/18 we have a 4 month old puppy named Vader fighting Parvo. His WBC was dangerously low and required a blood transfusion.  He was hospitalized Monday and is showing signs of improvement. Your donation for Giving Day will help with his hospitalization and treatment costs. 

Adoption fees do not cover emergency situations, behaviorists required for certain dogs nor do they cover other advanced treatments required. This is why your donations are so important.  For our dogs  with specific behavior challenges we need funds for boarding until a behaviorist and /or appropriate foster step up that can handle the specific problems.

German Shorthaired Pointers (GSP) are some of the most loving and loyal dogs you will come across, but they are also some of the most energetic. We are one of the largest GSP Rescues in the United States and each year we continue to take in a record breaking number of pointers. Currently our average cost to in take a new pointer is around $700 and our adoption fees top out at $350.  In order to continue to save these wonderful dogs we need to be able to provide a loving home and medical care. We provide all medical care necessary to adopt our dogs out at 100% health to their new home. We also try to support our fosters with any of their needs. Fosters are extremely important to us since their willingness to open their home and take care of these pointers until they are adopted is the only reason we are able to help hundreds of GSP's each year. Our goal is to continue to grow that number and help as many pointers as possible.
