To improve the mental health and well-being of military service members and family members, at-risk youth, and others with mental health needs through equine assisted mental health services including counseling and psychotherapy, therapeutic activities, education, and community engagement.
This version shifts the focus from a specific horse to the broader mission of providing lifelong care to the herd while connecting that care directly to your work with veterans and youth:
At STEPS With Horses, our herd is at the heart of everything we do. Each horse and donkey has a unique story—some are retired show horses who have found a meaningful second career, while others have come from neglect, abuse, or uncertain futures. Regardless of where they began, every herd member who joins our program is given a forever home, where they are valued, cared for, and able to make a lasting difference in the lives of others.
These remarkable animals help veterans, youth, and families facing mental health challenges discover hope, resilience, and healing. Their steady presence creates opportunities for connection, trust, and growth that often cannot be achieved through traditional approaches alone. In the pasture, healing happens not only for the people we serve, but for the horses themselves as they find safety, purpose, and belonging.
Providing a lifelong home for our herd is a commitment we take seriously. Hay, grain, veterinary care, farrier services, supplements, shelter, and daily care ensure that every equine remains healthy, comfortable, and able to continue this important work. As our horses age, many require additional support to maintain their quality of life, and we remain committed to caring for them throughout every stage of their journey.
A gift of $5,000 helps cover the annual care of one herd member, ensuring they receive the nutrition, medical care, and daily support they need. By investing in a horse's wellbeing, you are doing more than providing care for an animal—you are sustaining a powerful partnership that brings hope and healing to veterans, youth, and families across North Texas.
Together, we can continue providing forever homes for horses in need while creating life-changing opportunities for the people they serve. Every gift helps ensure that both horses and humans can find hope in the pasture.
This version is more aligned with a North Texas Giving Day appeal because it focuses on the organization's ongoing mission rather than a single horse, while still creating an emotional connection between equine welfare and mental health impact.
STEPS With Horses is committed to fostering an environment of inclusiveness free of prejudice or bias to sustain a safe and healing space for all. We believe in creating a nurturing climate that understands and respects the spectrum of human diversity including religion, age, gender, race, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, or nationality. All persons associated with STEPS are expected to embrace this philosophy and demonstrate such vision. STEPS takes this mission seriously by creating and incorporating culturally responsive, equitable, and inclusive services into all aspects of our organization.
