To improve the mental health and well-being of military service members and family members, at-risk youth, and others with mental health needs through equine assisted mental health services including counseling and psychotherapy, therapeutic activities, education, and community engagement.
Needs
Our therapy equines are more than companions—they are healers for veterans, youth, and families facing life’s toughest challenges. Every gentle nudge, patient breath, and steady presence helps someone find hope again. But these healers can only give their best when they are healthy and strong. Covering the full yearly care of a herd member—hay, grain, veterinary care, farrier visits, and more—ensures that each equine is nourished, pain-free, and ready to stand alongside those who need them most. When you invest in their wellbeing, you’re not just caring for a horse or donkey—you’re sustaining the heartbeat of healing for the heroes and people they serve. Healthy horses make better healers, and together we can give them the care they deserve so they can continue changing lives.
This holiday season, we’re coming together once again—this time to support Starbuck, one of our oldest and most beloved herd members. After his show career ended and he transitioned out of full-time therapeutic riding at another center, Starbuck found new purpose at STEPS With Horses, where he now plays a pivotal role in helping youth, veterans, and families heal.
Our community was incredibly generous in fully funding Bob’s annual care during September’s North Texas Giving Day. Now, it’s Starbuck’s turn.
We’re aiming to raise $5,000 towards the full annual cost of Starbuck’s hay, grain, veterinary care, farrier visits, and daily support. As an aging herd member with higher needs, this level of care ensures he stays comfortable, healthy, and able to continue his life-changing work.
Every gift helps us honor Starbuck’s new chapter and ensures that the horse who gives so much can keep shining for those who need him most.
