Who We Are

Southwest Transplant Alliance Foundation was established in 2018 to support the lifesaving mission of Southwest Transplant Alliance (STA).

STA is a non-profit organ procurement organization saving lives through the gift of donation. STA provides hope and healing to families in grief and to patients awaiting a lifesaving transplant.

According to Donate Life America's most recent statistics:

• There are more than 100,000 people on the transplant waiting list, including nearly 10,000 right here in Texas
• Another person is added to the waiting list every 8 minutes 
• 13 people in the U.S. die each day while waiting for an organ transplant

How We Help

The STA Foundation provides care for donor and recipient families, inspires the community to honor the gift of life, and fosters initiatives that advance transplant science. Your support allows us to go above and beyond for our courageous donor families and grateful transplant recipients.  

Family Support Program

The STA Foundation Family Support Program provides critical financial relief for new transplant recipients and their families.  Post-transplant, patients need time to recover and adjust to a new way of life. There are constant follow-up appointments, and medications to fill, and sometimes basic needs are put on hold. 

Through the Family Support Program, recipients are gifted financial relief from medical expenses, lost wages, and more with a one-time grant in the amount of $600. This support provides immediate relief, allowing patients to prioritize recovery and getting well. 

Donor Family Support

We are honored to walk alongside courageous donor families as they navigate the loss of a loved one. With your support, we can go above and beyond to provide meaningful items and services to honor the memory and legacy of a donor hero.  

Sentimental items include a Build-A-Bear with a loved one’s heartbeat inside for the children who lose a parent, Donor Family Care Kits for bedside memory making, custom STA Donor Medals, and free access to 1:1 grief and wellness support services. Each item or service is designed to bring comfort and compassionate care to our families.

Donor Memorial Garden

The Donor Memorial Garden serves as a poignant representation of STA's mission, bridging the gap between loss and life. We aim to create a space that embodies the intertwining emotions of grief and hope, serving as a beacon of light and renewal for all who visit. 

Each year, approximately 1,500 selfless individuals give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation at STA. Their generosity is honored with a personalized Legacy Leaf that is adorned on the Tree of Remembrance, the focal point of the Donor Memorial Garden. Support our efforts to honor the legacy of each STA donor and contribute to the care and upkeep of this meaningful space and display.
