“We have no roof. We have no walls. But under His wings, we have refuge.”
For over 30 years, Pastor Leon Birdd and the SOUL Church Dallas team have served homeless and vulnerable neighbors on the streets of Dallas, rain or shine—welcoming everyone with a warm smile and a “Jesus squeeze.”
The Need
S.O.U.L. Church serves individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, and hardship throughout Dallas and surrounding communities. Many people face food insecurity, lack access to clothing, supplies, transportation, access to social services, and other necessities while also experiencing isolation, trauma, and brokenness. We recognize that those we serve often carry deep emotional and spiritual wounds, and we seek to meet people where they are, on the streets and in underserved communities.
How We Respond
S.O.U.L. Church provides both practical assistance and spiritual care through a "church without walls." Every Sunday, rain or shine, the ministry gathers in an open field across from Fair Park to offer worship, prayer, Bible teaching, hot meals, clothing, shoes, showers, laundry services, haircuts, coffee, breakfast, and fellowship. Community.
Throughout the week, we work extensively to collect, prepare, and distribute food to those in need, families, ministries, veterans, shut-ins, and more. We also collect shoes, clothing, and other essential resources. We do this all while supporting individuals, families, recovery programs, transitional housing, veterans, seniors, and people with disabilities across North Texas.
How We Serve
We believe lasting transformation begins by meeting people where they are, with compassion, dignity, and the graceful love of Jesus Christ. As a ministry, we intentionally build relationships through mentoring, discipleship, Bible Study, and creating a sense of community and belonging, all while addressing physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
Beyond Sunday Church gatherings, we partner with other organizations to provide a clothes closet, shoes, and gathering food for our Soul Church Food Ministry, transportation assistance, helping individuals move toward stability and self-sufficiency.
Our heart-filled, committed Volunteers and donors play a vital role in sustaining these efforts.
