Serving With A Purpose is a non profit organization that was founded by Dr. Melissa Toney in 2011. As a former educator she saw the needs of children up close not just educationally, but the lack of so many basic needs not being met. She was the teacher like so many more with a closet in their classroom that was not just filled with educational materials but with all the basic needs that kids need to survive because their families were struggling to provide it. She quickly realized the lack that comes into the classroom is an extension of the lack that stems from their homes. We are committed to building basic needs resource centers within schools, fostering environments where students and families in need can get the things they need to survive daily. By partnering with school leaders, counselors and teachers they have everyday access within the school to toiletries, uniforms, regular clothes, shoes, undergarments, household goods, food vouchers. for all students in need and their families. Our comprehensive approach extends beyond material assistance, through our community cohorts we offer, wrap-around services encompassing mental health support, financial literacy education, career readiness programs, and life skills development. Through these initiatives, we aim to cultivate resilient individuals and families, equipping them with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate life's challenges and pursue their aspirations. Additionally, we are dedicated to fostering community revitalization, catalyzing positive change and sustainable growth in the areas we serve. Together, we envision a future where every individual has the opportunity to reach their full potential, and communities are strengthened by collective support and empowerment."
We partner with school districts to provide in house resource centers to provide daily necessities, clothes, shoes, hygiene items, food, household good, etc. to students and families in need. We are in great need of donations both monetary and tangible items. We also need a van to transport families and box trucks to transport items from partners to different schools and districts. Due to continued growth of needs and growth of resources we are also looking for warehouse/office space to create a more efficient way in how we serve our families.
Serving With A Purpose is dedicated to removing barriers to learning by supporting the whole child and their family. We transform classrooms into in-house resource centers within schools in low income communities (Title 1 Schools) providing essential items such as clothing, shoes, hygiene products, household goods, and much more. Alongside these supports, we offer educational programs in life skills, mental health, financial literacy, and career readiness. By meeting both immediate and long-term needs, we equip students to succeed in school and empower families to build better futures.
