The Sammons Center for the Arts is known as an "Arts Incubator" but is more like a "Greenhouse" for small performing arts groups. Located in the Historic Turtle Creek Pump station, a Dallas Landmark, we serve as the home for 15 arts organizations representing every performing arts discipline. More than 90 additional arts organizations also regularly use the Center's services and facilities for rehearsals, meetings, performances, auditions, and special events. Nearly 1,500 visit each week including over 400 children and youth. The Sammons Center for the Arts was developed to provide the community with resources and a facility for aspiring artists to hold rehearsals, workshops, and conferences in pursuit of their craft. If Dallas is to continue as a shaping force in the recognition and development of new talent, we must provide a permanent environment conducive to the achievement of this goal. We believe that the Arts should be accessible for all; the Arts ecosystem needs both small and large organizations; the Arts can help build community and provoke new thinking, and the Arts are a core asset of any thriving economy.
Our Needs
As the sole provider of affordable facilities and resources for small and midsize performing arts groups in North Texas, the Sammons Center for the Arts plays a vital role in the success and sustainability of these arts organizations. Our user and resident groups are small nonprofit organizations with limited resources. Community support allows us to offer affordable office, rehearsal, meeting, performance, and event space to small and midsize arts groups. In addition to providing overhead and rental facility support to these groups, the Sammons Center is also responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of this beautiful 113-year-old building - one of the oldest historical buildings in Dallas. We have lovingly maintained this building over our 34 years of operation; however much-needed repairs and replacements to our aging building and some projects that were not included in the original renovation continue to arise.
