We hold dances open to the public twice a month, in a fun, wholesome, and alcohol-free environment. We also sponsor at least two dance weekends each (non-COVID) year. Upon request, we can bring a demonstration group to perform or to seed a dance at special events. Our events provide a place for people of all backgrounds and ages to come together to share the enjoyment of music, dance, and each other.
The North Texas Traditional Dance Society (NTTDS) was chartered in 1986 as a non-profit educational organization to promote a better understanding and appreciation of American folk dancing, its music, its history, and related folklore. It is an group affiliate of the international organization Country Dance and Song Society. We are an all-volunteer organization, based in Dallas, TX. Our main activity is sponsoring Contra and English Country dances open to the public throughout the year.
As wonderful as our events are, attendance (and revenue) has been decreasing in the past few years. NTX Giving Day donations will help cover our normal costs of hall rental and paying musicians and callers. The funding will also allow us to increase our advertising and outreach to bring more people into our dance community.
We were inactive between March 2020 and March 2022 because of the Coronavirus Pandemic. We started dancing again in March 2022, but attendance has been very low. Our income is still not meeting expenses.
Our dances are open to people of all backgrounds and ages.
