$10,000 Goal

The North Texas Pride Foundation was an idea of a handfull of volunteers who shared the opinion, that  a community of LGBTQ and allies, lived north of highway 635 and should have a Pride event to celebrate the diversity of our lives and our community.  The basic thought was,...."it doesn't have to be the biggest event, it just had to be the first" and people would be inspired, want to join/volunteer and help it grow.  In June 2011, the North Texas Pride "Come As You Are" Festival became a reality in an alley way of McKinney Square.  My then partner and I financed the expenses along with donations from friends and,.........we prayed that the 50 facebook responses to attend, would show up.  It was branded as a "family friendly" event to include all ages.  We surpassed that, with over 200 attendees.  Adults, friends, chlldren of all ages, vendors participated and there were a number of people that wanted to volunteer for the next Pride event.

Additionally, North Texas Pride volunteers agreed to designate a percentage of festival funds that would be donated to a worthy beneficiary.  That first beneficiary was, C.U.R.E. (Community Unity, Respect, Education) an HIV awareness organization.  The Beneficiary donation has continued every year since 2011 and organizations are encouraged to apply to be considered.

In 2014 the North Texas Pride Foundation became a 501(c)3 non profit with a Board of Directors and volunteers.  The annual festivals were held in Lewisville, McKinney, and have been held at the ArtCentre of Plano since 2017.   This is a great venue for family friendly event with vendors, sponsors, food trucks, entertainment, Kid Zone, face painter, giveaways, and a grand prize.

The ultimate goal of the North Texas Pride Foundation is to provide support and backing for a permanent North Texas facility in which organizations can meet, congregate, educate, socialize, and provide other services to the entire LGBTQA community and beyond, similar to other major cities' Resource Center.
