Founded in 2019 and transitioning to an official 501c(3) non-profit in October 2020, Love & Paws Rescue's mission is to save the most at-risk dogs in Texas. We are 100% run by volunteers and 100% funded by donations. Now in our 5th year, we have saved over 300 dogs, cats, and pigs.
Love & Paws Rescue focuses on making sure every dog is ready for a forever home in terms of sociability, health, and overall adoptability. We take all the time needed to rehabilitate the dogs in our care and get them the best vet care to ensure that they are healthy. We treat our foster dogs as the deserving animals that we know they are and it shows in their transformations. Every dog that comes through our doors is forever a part of the Love & Paws family.
In January 2024, we closed our intake to focus on the dogs currently in our care. Several had been on our roster for more than a year, and with the continued decline in fosters and volunteers, we felt it would be a significant disservice to them if we continue to take on more. While the decision allowed us to help several of our long-timers find their forever home, 2024 also brought over 25 adoption returns (many of whom were adopted out over a year ago). It became a revolving door- one dog out, another one in. The cycle felt like it would never end. We developed a new approach to adoption screenings, brought in a trainer to support the dogs with specific needs, and finally found our groove again.
As we entered 2025, we finally felt some relief being down to 6 on our roster. We remain committed to the dogs currently in our care AND those who have found their forever homes through us. They are forever a Love & Paws dog, cat, or pig. Pluto, Speckles, Nemo, and Goose continue their search for a forever family.
Love & Paws Rescue is a small foster based dog rescue in Fort Worth, Texas. Our mission is to save the most at-risk dogs in Texas. We take in strays, owner surrenders, and also pull from shelters with high euthanasia rates and low communtiy support. We focus on quality over quantity for the dogs that need it most, taking all the time they need to be rehabilitated and all of the care they require to be healthy and happy in every aspect of life.
While Pluto and Speckles are in boarding with our President, Goose is in his foster home. He is being seen by a behavioral veterinarian to find the right medication and training combination for him. Nemo is in boarding with our trainer. Her boarding is around $800/month and incredibly worth it. She is working each and every day towards her best self. The ongoing costs for Goose and Nemo are our biggest areas of need.
Love and Paws Rescue believes in diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of our work and service. A broad lens of equity and diversity has a positive impact on the animals in our care, and helps us better serve clients, volunteers, and our entire community. We believe that no one should be judged on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability or level of income, just as no dog should be judged based on their breed or background. We believe in collaboration with other organizations and institutions within the community to help achieve the equity to which all humans and animals are entitled. Love and Paws Rescue is not just about compassion for animals- it's about who we are at the core and standing up for what is right for all involved.
