Please consider supporting Justice for Our Neighbors' (JFON) work on behalf of immigrants like Rolando. He came from Columbia. He had escaped to the USA to end the torture from the Cartels. He was being persecuted for not doing work for the Cartel and neither his local enforcement nor the government offered any protection for individuals like Rolando. His road to the USA was long and an end not promised. He walked much of the time. Through a part of his trip he was trafficked by "coyotes". That type of help is never free! Rolando went for long periods of time in varying temperatures with little to eat. But compared to the torture he experienced in his home country, this was a price he was willing to pay.
When he made his way into the USA he worked long, hard hours. He felt blessed that he was employed in the United States here in North Texas for many years in the service industry. As Rolando had limited means, he continued to work to provide for his family. Rolando heard about JFONNCTx and reached out to us to see if we could help. JFONNCTx took Rolando on as a client six years ago and acknowledged he had a valid claim for citizenship. Over the years we worked with Rolando and his family to ensure a more stable and safe future. On his legal road there were a number of bumps, a few starts and stops. But, JFONNCTx and Rolando persisted. In March 2025 his application for citizenship was finally approved. It was such a joyous celebration with his family when he took the oath of citizenship. We were all so proud of his determination!
Prior to his citizenship, he worked for far less than minimum wage because those were the only jobs he could get, as he did not have permission to work in the USA. But he worked many hours in more than one job to provide for his family. Now, as a citizen, he is more gainfully employed, he is a property maintenance manager at a hotel making a quality living for himself and his family. And he has a bit more family time now!
This is a life Rolando only dreamed of in Columbia. But with his hard work, determination, and no cost representation from JFONNCTx he is now living a life beyond his dreams.
During this North Texas Giving Day you can help immigrants like Rolando transition from crisis to stability. Can we count on your support?
