$12,000 Goal

There aren't enough people of color who own or work in creative businesses. So JMMA was created to make sure that black and brown teens experience more equity and representation in the design world than past creatives of color, and that future generations of digital storytellers have the opportunity to create content that is reflective of the world in which they live. Our goal is to expose teens of color to opportunities that will allow them to create a design workforce that is a reflection of all representations. JMMA provides underrepresented teens of color, ages 12 to 24, access to resources, mentorships, collaborations and workshops in design media that can boost their creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Our Needs

JET Mode Media Academy was founded as means to bring diverse backgrounds of youth together to develop empathy & friendships in the city of Dallas. We do this by teaching design, video production, video game design and coding to youth who need access to tools to create and take on social topics in our community. We have worked with over 200 youth in 12 months. During the summer, we put on media camps, and we do not have the funds to purchase the equipment we need. We need equipment such as hardrives, computers, software, cameras, laptops and mics. We also need creative tech spaces for teens to collaborate and innovate such as tech centers, studios and design agencies. We need partnerships, sponsors and most importantly funders.

Equity Statement

JET Mode Media Academy is an organization that values diversity, equity, and inclusion as essential to our mission.

We acknowledge that historical and institutional barriers-particularly racial bias and discrimination-play a role in the widening gap in media technology and who has access to opportunities in these fields. JMMA focuses our work on diversity and equity but also on people of color who are historically underrepresented in design, media and technology fields, specifically youth who:

Come from underrepresented minority groups, including African American/Black, Hispanic or Latina, Bi/ Multiracial, Native American/Alaskan, and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander;

Come from low-income backgrounds, specifically free and/or reduced lunch eligible;

Have had a lack of exposure or access to creative design.

JET Mode Media Academy acknowledges and values the intersections of race/ethnicity, gender identity and expression, class, sexual orientation, ability, age, national origin, and religious/spiritual identities.
