Our Needs
Assistance with Hope for the Holidays 2022
Jeremiah's Voice, Inc. is an organization that serves the colorful range of individuals living with disabilities and their parents/ caregivers. We provide support to parents/ caregivers by being a beacon of hope to them as they walk this journey. We strengthen the families by embracing them and showing intentional compassion for their lives.
The holiday season is challenging for all, and we know what our families encounter with its arrival. When you think of families caring for someone with a disability, they have to deal with the high-stress holiday shopping, preparation, pandemonium, ultra-sensory sights, sounds, smells, crowds, lights, and fussing can be overwhelming. Jeremiah's Voice designed this program to provide families with the experience of relaxing and simply enjoying the holidays this year without worrying about paying for gifts for their special needs children and adults and without worrying about paying for and preparing the holiday meal.
Goals:
To provide age-specific and disability-appropriate holiday gifts as well as a catered holiday meal for families within the DFW North Texas area who currently providing care for a special needs child or adult.
To help reduce the stress, anxiety and potential holiday depression that can occur during this time.
To raise awareness, build tolerance and sensitivity, and foster a community-embrace of differences that warrant love rather than ridicule.
To help remove the stigma about families caring for someone with a disability or living with a disability that they don't matter to society.
Why is there a need for Jeremiah's Voice Hope for the Holiday Program?
There are many local and national organizations that provide gifts and toys for people who are struggling financially. What distinguishes us from many of these other wonderful endeavors, is that Jeremiah's Voice recognizes that the kinds of toys that these organizations give out to needy families during the holidays are not suitable for children who may be challenged by a disability that prohibits them from walking, talking, touching, speaking, or interacting. Just the heightened sensory aspects of some toys may trigger adverse reactions in children with special needs. Noise, for example, for the typical child, is welcomed and encouraged. But for a child with a special need, noise may be anything but welcomed.
