Our chapter was founded in 1895 and has been active in the community for more than 130 years. We sponsor programs for youth, veterans, active duty military personnel, and we maintain a museum of historical artifacts that is open to the public annually during the State Fair of Texas. We also sell low-cost drinks and handmade items during the State Fair as a fundraising project to fund repairs and maintenance of our building. Our building is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and houses an active group that serves the community in various ways.  The Chapter has owned the historic building since 1937.

Our Needs

The building is about 87 years old and requires restoration and repair to various areas, inside and outside. The chapter recently restored the building's foundation, replaced the roof, and needs to proceed with restoration of the exterior of the building. In addition, the air conditioning system and ceiling have been replaced for the comfort of visitors and to keep the climate controlled for preservation of its museum collection. In order to fulfill our mission, the building must have some major improvements for the comfort of guests and chapter use for activities promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism. All funds raised from Giving Day will fund repairs to our historic building.

Giving Activity

Mission

Jane Douglas Chapter NSDAR and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution share the goals of Historic Preservation, Education, and Patriotism. Jane Douglas Chapter has the mission of preserving and maintaining the Continental D.A.R. House, fulfilling part of its mission of Historic Preservation.

Needs

Our chapter maintains an 89-year old historic building at Fair Park and need funds to repair and restore the property. It also maintains a library of more than 3,000 volumes of genealogy books. It has a historic designation and repairs must meet Texas Historic Commission standards. We recently made a repair to the side of the building where the wind had damaged the molding and siding. In addition, we had to make a repair to the bricks on the patio to keep visitors from falling on the damaged area.

Equity Statement

The Daughters of the American Revolution proudly practices a non-discrimination policy and encourages and celebrates diversity in our organization.
