Who We Are
For more than 40 years, Humane Society of Dallas County (HSDC)-formerly known as Dog & Kitty City—has been a safe haven for homeless pets. With a no-kill philosophy at our core, every animal who enters our care has a home with us for as long as it takes to find their forever family. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we rely entirely on the generosity of individuals and businesses like you to continue this lifesaving work.
Unlike many assume, HSDC is not affiliated with any national or government agency, nor do we receive city, state, or federal funding. Every single gift comes directly from our community—and 100% of those dollars stay right here in Dallas, saving local dogs and cats in need.
💙 Found loving homes for 400+ animals in 2024
💙 Provides every pet with vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, and microchips
💙 Expanded vital programs, including adoption, foster, volunteer, and enrichment
💙 Offers a unique free-roaming cat adoption experience, with minimal cages and outdoor catios
💙 Ensured daily walks and playtime for every dog in our care
💙 Delivered specialized care for orphaned neonatal puppies and kittens
💙 Gave lifelong support to cats with Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and FIV
💙 Provided training and behavior support for harder-to-place animals
Our mission is to promote adoption and provide a safe, healthy and compassionate environment for the cats and dogs of Dallas County for as long as needed.
Sustaining our no-kill policy comes with its challenges. From medical care and nutritious food to comfortable shelter and loving attention, the cost of caring for our furry residents adds up quickly. Your donation, no matter the size, can make a world of difference. Here's how your contribution can help:
$25: Provides a week's worth of high-quality food for one animal.
$50: Covers the cost of essential vaccinations for a newly arrived animal.
$100: Supports the spaying or neutering of a cat or dog, helping to control the pet population and reduce the number of homeless animals.
$250: Offers medical treatment for an injured or sick animal, ensuring they receive the care they need to recover.
$500 or more: Helps us maintain our facilities, create comfortable living spaces, and continue our outreach programs to find loving forever homes for our animals.
At The Humane Society of Dallas County, we are committed to creating an inclusive and equitable environment where all individuals, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, socioeconomic status, or any other characteristic, feel welcome and valued.
We strive to ensure that our services are accessible to everyone in our community and that our policies, practices, and programs reflect our commitment to equity and inclusion. HSDC actively seeks to create a diverse team of staff, volunteers, and board members who bring a wide range of perspectives and experiences. Believing that by embracing diversity, we can better serve our community and advocate for the well-being of all animals.
HSDC recognizes that barriers to equity exist, and we are committed to continuously addressing and preventing them. We are dedicated to continuous learning, listening, and evolving to ensure that our shelter is a place where everyone feels respected, supported, and empowered to contribute to our mission.
