Fort Worth Youth Orchestra

The Fort Worth Youth Orchestra (FWYO) inspires and nurtures young musicians through exceptional music education, intensive training, and transformative performance opportunities. For more than 60 years, FWYO has helped students develop their musical talents while building discipline, confidence, teamwork, resilience, and pride in personal achievement.

Today, FWYO serves more than 500 young musicians from communities across North Texas through ten programs, including four orchestras, two wind ensembles, jazz, Suzuki, chamber music, and a summer program. Students can begin with foundational instruction and continue through increasingly advanced ensembles, allowing many young musicians to grow within FWYO for years as their skills, independence, and artistry develop.

Students receive instruction from accomplished professional musicians, conductors, and educators; perform challenging repertoire in leading venues throughout North Texas; participate in community performances and collaborations; and, at the highest level, may participate in international performance tours. These experiences provide a caliber and depth of musical training rarely available to young musicians.

Access to consistent music education remains a significant challenge in our community. Only 9 of 40 surrounding school districts offer string programs, leaving many young string players without an orchestra at school. FWYO also serves homeschooled students, students attending charter or alternative schools, and others whose educational settings may not provide the musical opportunities they need to continue developing their talent.

Our Needs

Every young musician deserves the opportunity to pursue their talent, regardless of financial circumstances. One in four FWYO students is considered at risk, and last year FWYO awarded more than $50,000 in need-based financial aid—the most in our history. As enrollment grows, so do financial aid requests.
