Nearly 7,000 animals call the Fort Worth Zoo home, but it’s our little ones and their mothers that need extra attention – and investment. You know how much babies cost – now imagine caring for as many as we do here at the Fort Worth Zoo! Our little ones represent incredible conservation successes, but each adorable addition also comes with tremendous care requirements.
From critically endangered gorillas to vulnerable lions, each baby and mom needs additional monitoring, specialized diets, veterinary care and expert staff attention. Every dollar spent caring for these little ones today helps secure their species’ survival for future generations.
With your gift on North Texas Giving Day, you can make a difference in the lives of all of our animals, but especially these moms and babies, while supporting the crucial conservation work the Fort Worth Zoo does both locally and around the world.
The mission of the Fort Worth Zoo is to strengthen the bond between humans and the environment by promoting responsible stewardship of wildlife and ensuring diverse, high-quality educational and entertaining family experiences through effective and efficient management of resources. The foundation of this mission statement is based on three cornerstone principles:
Education: A commitment to provide factual information to nurture an appreciation of and respect for wildlife and the environment.
Conservation: A commitment to affect positive change through the facilitation of conservation and sound scientific research.
Entertainment: A commitment to excellence and to always exceed our guest's expectations.
Babies are expensive, and we need your help caring for our little ones and their moms! Funds raised on North Texas Giving Day will contribute to maternal and infant animal care at the Fort Worth Zoo.
Our successful breeding programs are a crucial component of our conservation work with many threatened and endangered species, including African lions, lesser flamingos, Texas horned lizards, Puerto Rican crested toads and Louisiana pine snakes, just to name a few. Certain species, like the gharial crocodile and Houston toad, are estimated to have only a few hundred individuals left in the wild.
Every birth at the Fort Worth Zoo represents a critical step in the fight against extinction for these vulnerable species. Your gift could help provide important resources for newborn and postpartum care, like:
$25: Thermometer for tracking vitals
$50: Enrichment toy to encourage healthy development
$100: Supplies for neonatal and postpartum exams (syringes, blood tubes, etc.)
$250: Pediatric stethoscope for cardiac evaluations
