Dallas Street Dog Advocates (DSDA) was founded by concerned, experienced and compassionate people whose common goal is to make a difference in the lives of abandoned street dogs in southern Dallas and surrounding rural areas. Dogs that enter our program are often sick, injured, neglected, and sadly some have even experienced abuse. This year, we've found the need for help even greater than ever before!
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Dallas Street Dog Advocates is committed to rescuing the stray and forgotten dogs off the streets of Dallas and surrounding areas, providing them with necessary medical care including spay and neuter, vaccinations and training, and then finding them permanent loving homes where they will be cared for the rest of their lives. Over the past two years we have expanded our outreach program to include areas of South Texas that experience one of the most horrendous stray dog population in all of Texas. We supply food, preventatives and vaccines as well as coordinate and pay for spay/neuter surgeries through low cost spay neuter clinics in the area.
Why is the need even greater?
Animal shelters across Texas are all overcapacity and many are not accepting dogs due the mounting number of strays being picked up off the streets. Because of the long wait lists for surrenders it is not uncommon for desperate owners to abandon their pets leaving them vulnerable to serious injuries, starvation and disease. Pregnant dogs and dogs with nursing puppies are being dumped in rural areas leaving "Man's Best Friend" completely defenseless. When an owner surrenders their family dog to a local shelter, they are only given a few days to be adopted but many are euthanized that very same day. Economic challenges have caused owners to simply leave their dogs behind as they can no longer afford to care for them.
How does DSDA help?
DSDA volunteers pride ourselves in being a "bridge" between the homeless street dogs we help and their forever families as well as a catalyst in helping individuals reduce the number of unwanted or abandoned dogs in their own communities. People living in the most afflicted areas need help and rely on our assistance.
Without exception DSDA dogs are sterilized so will never contribute to the mounting number of unwanted dogs. Placed in caring foster homes, our rescues learn to be part of a loving family and receive training while recovering physically and emotionally. Additionally, DSDA dogs are vaccinated and microchipped before being adopted. Forever Homes are carefully screened to ensure the best match for the dog's energy level and personality.
Together with YOUR support
coupled with our passion and love for dogs
we will make a difference...
one dog, one home, and one community at a time.
Our Biggest Needs
DONATIONS are essential for covering the rising medical care expenses and supplies needed for the dogs in our care. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, DSDA is able to provide food, medical care, supplies, and training for each dog. Unfortunately, the dogs we have rescued over the past year are often in worse physical and emotional condition than in previous years, largely due to increased abandonment, abuse, and economic hardships. Many of them are pregnant, suffering from heartworm, or both. Common issues include skin infections, severe malnourishment, soft tissue injuries, and broken bones.
To save even more dogs, we urgently need more FOSTER HOMES! Our dedicated foster families provide the love, structure, and training that these dogs require.
We also need ADOPTERS! Each adoption allows us to rescue another dog in need. Adopting one dog means saving two: the dog you adopt and the one we can bring in to fill that space. Since we are not breed-specific, we have a wide variety of dogs available.
We are always in need of in-kind donations, such as food, collars, harnesses, leashes, beds, crates, treats, and toys—items that many of our dogs have never experienced before joining our organization. To help us keep our supplies stocked, please check out our AMAZON WISH LIST.
We are also seeking volunteers to help build and manage our website and assist in designing brochures and social media materials. If you have these skills, please email us at info@dsda.org for more information.
As a 100% volunteer-based organization, all funds go directly towards the care of our dogs.
Thank you for your continued support!
