Denton County LOSS Team: Transforming Grief into a Path of Hope

Every day, families in Denton County are devastated by the tragedy of suicide. In those darkest moments, the Denton County LOSS Team (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors) is there—bringing compassion, resources, and hope when it’s needed most. Launched in 2015, our team of suicide-loss survivors and mental health professionals has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with more than 2,000 individuals, offering both immediate crisis response and long-term support to help families find healing and reduce the risk of further loss.

What Your Gift Makes Possible

  • Immediate, on-scene support:

When a suicide occurs, our team responds within hours to provide compassionate presence and crisis resources, ensuring families are not alone in their most vulnerable time.

  • Long-term care:

We follow up regularly—within the first week, month, and up to a year—through visits, phone calls, and check-ins to help reduce isolation and the risk for additional suicide deaths.

  • Free grief resources:

From comfort kits for children (stuffed animals, blankets) to guidance books for adults, and even funding for biohazard cleanup, we ease the immediate burden on families.

The Impact of Your Support

  • Survivors who receive LOSS intervention gain access to help 40 times faster than average.
  • Reducing the likelihood of additional suicide deaths within our community.
  • Every dollar given helps prevent further tragedy and brings hope to grieving families.

Why Give for North Texas Giving Day?

Your donation provides:

  • Critical biohazard cleanup so families aren't left to shoulder the aftermath alone.
  • Counseling services for those experiencing suicide grief.
  • Training and deployment for our dedicated volunteers.
  • Comfort/Resource kits for children and families ($10-$64 each).

This North Texas Giving Day, your generosity is more than a donation—it’s a lifeline.

Together, we can ensure that every survivor of suicide loss in Denton County finds the care, comfort, and connection they need to move from devastation to healing.

Giving Activity

Mission

The Denton County LOSS Team (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors) exists to provide immediate, compassionate, and ongoing support to individuals and families who have lost a loved one to suicide. Through timely on-scene response, personalized grief resources, and follow-up care, we help survivors navigate the earliest stages of loss with dignity, connection, and hope—ensuring that no one in Denton County faces suicide loss alone.

Needs

When suicide occurs, families are often left with overwhelming grief and unexpected financial burdens such as funeral costs and forensic cleanup, which can range from $3,000–$7,500. The Denton County LOSS Team steps in to ease these burdens by offering immediate support, free grief resources, and compassionate care so families can focus on healing.

Your gift makes a direct impact:

• Provides a comfort kit for a grieving survivor.

• Helps cover biohazard cleanup so families aren’t left with preventable trauma and debt.

• Every dollar supports survivors on their path to healing.

We also welcome volunteers—mental health professionals and suicide-loss survivors—who want to walk alongside grieving families. And by sharing our mission, you help us reach even more survivors who might otherwise feel forgotten.

With your help, LOSS can continue to provide hope, reduce isolation, and ensure no family has to face suicide loss alone
