We provide immediate relief of needs for children who are victims of abuse or neglect. For children who are being removed from their homes, we provide clothing, shoes, a small toy, school supplies and hygiene products. For children in danger of being removed, we provide safety items such as car seats or smoke alarms, as well as things like cleaning products and room heaters and coolers. When we meet immediate needs of these children, they are better able to cope with their circumstances.
Our Needs
Community Partners of Johnson County fulfills requests to help over 600 children a year with items of necessity such as clothing, shoes, personal hygiene products, diapers, school supplies, and other items. These children are often removed from abusive or neglectful homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs, so being able to provide necessities helps ease the transition from home to temporary foster care. One of our biggest needs is beds. We are asked to provide twin beds for children placed in foster care where the foster parent may not be able to afford a safe sleeping space. Our budget is tight, so we can only afford air mattresses or cots. These are only temporary solutions to the problem of safe sleeping. Being able to provide actual beds would help the children remain safe and provide a better night's sleep.
