Communities In Schools of Greater Tarrant County Inc.

A nonprofit organization

CIS provides intensive, ongoing case management directly inside local schools for students identified as most at-risk of someday dropping out, due to a variety of barriers they and their families face. By doing in-home visits and in-depth needs assessments, our social workers provide individualized case management plans, connecting students and their families with local services and resources they need for the student to be well-supported and to achieve academic success.

CIS currently provides intensive case management to more than 5,000 at-risk, pre-K through 12th-grade students in 71 schools in 11 different area school districts. Our ability to expand the CIS case management program into additional campuses depends entirely on our ability to re-raise the funds necessary to sustain our existing sites, and raise enough additional funds to accept new schools.

CIS social workers are housed on a full-time basis within each of these schools during the academic year, providing ongoing, intensive case management support for each school's at-risk student population. The caseload for each social worker is 88-90 students per campus.

In addition to case management support, CIS places licensed clinical social workers on select school campuses to address the mental health needs of students through one-on-one counseling services and mental health awareness trainings and tools for educators.

Our Needs
