THE ROOTS OF OUR STORY

In 1921, WB Carrell, MD and a group of Texas Masons saw a need for a charity hospital for crippled children and founded the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC) - now known as Scottish Rite for Children (SRC) a world-renowned institution.

WHO WE ARE

Carrell Care Community Partners was founded by a group of Dallas orthopedic surgeons, philanthropists and Carrell family members to continue the vision of Dr. W.B. Carrell and Dr. Brandon Carrell. 100 years ago, Carrell Clinic founder W.B. Carrell along with a group of Texas Masons established Scottish Rite for Children -a charity hospital for children with orthopedic deformities and the W.B. Carrell Memorial Clinic.

100 years later- A New Issue: Aging Out of Charity Care

The very children that Dr. W.B. Carrell sought to help 100 years ago-were now facing a new issue. These young patients were "aging out" of charity care hospitals like Scottish Rite for Children and Shriner's Children with many facing present day health insurance coverage gaps. For some young Texans who DO qualify for Medicaid, like aging out foster youth,  their plans exclude Durable Medical Equipment in the state of Texas. They are often left with needs not met by government assistance or insurance after "aging out" at age 18.

OUR MISSION

Part of Carrell Care's mission is to assist these young people by providing financial aid and/or pro bono medical care for medically necessary orthopedic surgery; the ExoSym device to avoid amputation; prosthetics for amputations; orthotics for deformities or paralysis and those having joint replacements due to juvenile arthritis or other congenital conditions. In assisting these recipients to gain access to medically necessary orthopedic care, Carrell Care helps to empower these young adults to make a difference through education and entering the workforce. This ultimately improves quality of life and helps patients live with dignity and purpose.

GIVING A LEG UP

This is where Carrell Care Community Partners steps in. We are here to “give a leg up” to meet the need and continue W.B. Carrell’s vision -to provide medically necessary orthopedic care for these uninsured, underinsured and underserved young folks, aged 16-30, so they can move towards a better future with hope, resilience and independence.

Mission

Carrell Care Community Partners provides financial aid and/or pro bono treatment to recipients for medically necessary orthopedic surgery, clinical care, and durable medical equipment (including the ExoSym device) to uninsured or underinsured young people, aged 16-30, who are 200% below the Federal Poverty Limit, and qualify for the program

Needs

Carrell Care Community Partners believes young people age 16-30, who fall into the health insurance "Coverage Gap," are uninsured or underinsured, should have access to medically necessary orthopedic care in order to fulfill their potential.
