Imagine a six year-old boy recently diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his right femur. Bone cancer, with the likelihood of amputation, a long series of chemotherapy treatments and hospitalization. For this boy his entire world changes in a blink of an eye. A flood of thoughts fill his head, and his biggest concern is if 'I will be able to play like a normal kid again'. Forty years ago Camp Esperanza directed its mission and goals to focus on this exact scenario. How can we help kids with cancer feel normal again? How can we help them believe in themselves and show them there's still fun to be had, friends to be made and walls to be climbed?
Our Needs
Camp Esperanza is free of charge to all campers. Six days of amazing fun for our campers!
The purpose of the Bridewell Foundation is to raise money to fund Camp Esperanza. Your donation goes directly to sending 140 campers to camp every summer! In addition to the campers, we send another 80 staff which includes counselors, medical staff and our camp admin. So in total we send around 220 people to camp for a life-changing experience every summer!
Our operating budget totals $120,000 which has increased 37% in the last year. Looking at the cost per camper, sending one kid to camp costs $750. We also have all of the other pivotal support people to keep our kids safe and have a joyful week!
