$5,000 Goal

Brighter Bites helps kids and families eat more fruits and vegetables. We do this by pairing school-based produce distributions and classroom-based nutrition education, all while creating a fun food experience for the entire school community.

Each Brighter Bites week, we distribute 50-60 servings of 8-12 different kinds of fruits and vegetables to each family at participating schools. We train and support classroom to implement nutrition education in classrooms using the Coordinated Approach to Child Health (CATCH), an evidence-based school health curriculum.

Throughout the school year, we equip parents with nutrition education on food preparation techniques, as well as tips and resources around food storage and safety, menu planning, healthy shopping on a budget, and more. Brighter Bites staff conduct cooking demonstrations each semester and other fun food experiences for parents, children, and volunteers at each distribution.

A national non-profit founded in Houston in 2012, Brighter Bites now serves communities in 11 cities across the country. We have been serving Dallas area communities since 2014.

Giving Activity

Mission

Our mission at Brighter Bites is to create communities of health through fresh food. We bring school communities together to deliver fruits and vegetables directly into families' hands. We teach them how to use it and track their behavior change.

We envision a future with improved health outcomes among children and families in under-resourced communities. We use data-driven, evidence-based strategies of providing fresh produce and nutrition education.

Needs

Our current needs include funding the full Brighter Bites program - including nutrition education, fresh produce, and a fun culinary experience - for additional families in the Dallas metro area.

A $22 donation will provide one family the Brighter Bites program for one produce distribution - approximately 20 pounds of fresh produce.

A $350 donation will provide one family the Brighter Bites program for a full year - including nutrition education, approximately 320lbs of fresh produce, and culinary experiences.

Equity Statement

Brighter Bites is committed to fostering a culture of inclusivity, equity, and accountability amongst our board, staff, and stakeholders in order to implement our program equitably to under-resourced communities.

Our Vision: We believe that we can increase our staff’s cultural competency and DEI knowledge through training and events, to create a company culture where we here at Brighter Bites are equipped to put our knowledge into practice.

We work to identify and advocate for strategies for DEI through Brighter Bites programming. From site recruitment to program promotion and implementation in the school communities that we serve.
