Builders of Hope CDC was founded in 1998 with a simple, stubborn belief: that Black and Brown families in Dallas have the right to stay in the communities they built, the right to own the homes they live in, and the right to build wealth that outlasts them. For nearly 30 years, we have organized our entire existence around making that belief a reality.
We are the only Certified Community Housing Development Organization, known as a CHDO, in the City of Dallas and Dallas County. It means we are federally recognized as the organization most accountable to the lowest-income communities we serve. We do not develop housing for Dallas families. We develop it with them.
Since our founding, we have built more than 500 quality affordable homes across West Dallas, South Dallas, East Dallas and Pleasant Grove. We have created over 1,500 construction jobs and generated nearly $35 million in generational wealth for families who were told the door was closed.
