From Shy Camper to Confident Leader: Randall's Journey
When Randall first walked through the doors at Brother Bill's Helping Hand, he was the kind of child who stayed in the background. Quiet, hesitant, uncertain. His mother watched with concern, wondering if her son would ever find his voice or his place in the world.
Randall and his brother meet Santa at Brother Bill's
"I remember one Christmas, we were standing in line at Brother Bill's," Randall recalls. "We were at the old building waiting for toys and maybe food. It was cold, and my whole family was there. Then it started pouring rain, and I was soaked. But I didn't care—I knew Santa was inside, and we had been waiting to come for a long time. Brother Bill's did that for us."
That rainy Christmas day was just the beginning of a transformation that would unfold over years.
Finding His Place
Through Brother Bill's summer camps, something began to shift in Randall. Camp OTX became more than just a summer activity—it became the place where he discovered his confidence, his faith, and his potential. Each year, he returned more open, more engaged, more sure of himself.
But it wasn't just camp that made the difference. For Randall's family of five, Brother Bill's provided consistent support that gave them room to breathe. "BBHH helped a lot," Randall explains. "It helped my parents because they could use money for other things we needed. It was a huge help growing up."
From groceries and school supplies to Christmas gifts and family counseling, Brother Bill's was a steady presence in their lives. "We've never felt discriminated against - only loved," his mother shared. "Everything they do is truly God's work."
Coming Full Circle
Today, at 19, Randall is pursuing his dream of becoming an engineer. But even with a demanding study schedule, he makes time for what matters most: giving back to the community that helped shape him.
"This summer was cool because now I work for Brother Bill's," he says with pride. "I'm happy to be here and help other people in need, especially immigrants. I know what that feels like."
Working as a summer counselor at Camp OTX, Randall has come full circle—from the shy camper who needed encouragement to the confident leader who now provides it to others.
"This place helped me when I was little. Now I get to be the one helping someone else. I'm really glad they offer internships—so kids like me have something to do that matters."
Your Part in the Story
Randall's transformation didn't happen in isolation. It happened because people like you chose to invest in a child's potential, even when that potential wasn't immediately visible.
When asked what he'd tell someone thinking about donating, Randall's response is simple and heartfelt: "You should donate here because it's trustworthy. They've helped my family for many years—and they have everything people need. They will do anything for you."
This North Texas Giving Day, your gift continues stories like Randall's. It provides the consistent support that helps children discover their confidence, grow in their faith, and develop into leaders who lift others up.
Because when we invest in one child, we're really investing in an entire community's future.
