Altrusa is an international non-profit community service organization dedicated to making our local communities better through leadership, partnership, and service. We strive to create better communities worldwide. The membership is a diverse group of men and women in both background and experience. Through Altrusa membership, you have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, serve your community, and develop both personal and business networks that make a difference in the lives of our community. Altrusa International, Inc. currently consists of over 300 clubs in at least 13 countries.
The Downtown Dallas Altrusa Club was chartered on September 28, 1982, and was sponsored by the Dallas Evening Club with only 30 members. Today, we still have two active founding members and a membership of more than 50 members. We are taught and support the joy of collectively giving service to others. Our focus is on helping women and children in the Dallas Metroplex and our inspiration is "Educating Families for a Better Future".
Our Downtown Dallas Club has made an impact on the lives of our members and our community in many ways. We have created a family of civic-minded people who mentor each other in Altrusa and support each other in our careers and personal lives. We have raised over $1 million dollars to fund our service projects and to support non-profit agencies. We have performed numerous hours of community service for over 50 organizations throughout the Dallas Metroplex.

Our Needs

The Altrusa of Downtown Dallas Club assists women, children, and veterans experiencing hunger and homelessness, helps to combat illiteracy and support survivors of sexual violence, human trafficking and domestic abuse in the Dallas Metroplex area. In furtherance of our mission "Educating Families for a Better Future", our projects include support of after-school literacy programs in under served areas of our city, housing and computer literacy access, scholarships for minority students, delivery of backpacks/school supplies for kids going back to school, delivering Thanksgiving meals for entire families and many other related activities. Funding is needed for these projects with 100% of the proceeds raised going to the nonprofit agencies we support.

Giving Activity

Mission

The Foundation handles the proceeds of the club's fundraisers and distributes them to worthy beneficiaries that are vetted by the club. The Foundation accepts donations and directs them in accordance with the club's mission, donor desires, and applicable law.

Equity Statement

Altrusa International of Downtown Dallas and its associated Foundation value the individual

diversity of all persons. Differences in age, race, ethnic heritage, religion, appearance, sexual

orientation, or any number of other distinguishing factors provide experiences, viewpoints, and

ideas that can strengthen and enrich our environment. Our goal is to create an environment that is

inclusive, respectful, and equitable, and to employ the talents of people with different

backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives to accomplish the mission of the Club and the

Foundation.

To accomplish that mission, we believe that we must be responsive to the needs of

everyone in the community who may receive our services. We strive to implement programs

using our awareness of cultural differences and treat all with respect. Furthermore, our goal is to

create an organizational culture that values people of all backgrounds and is based on our
