White Rock Chapel of Addison Inc

The roots of White Rock Chapel of Addison trace back to enslaved families who gathered for worship and fellowship along White Rock Creek.  White Rock Chapel of Addison is dedicated to the continuation of our founders’ spirit and purpose, serving as a historical site for the community to experience as well as a cultural and spiritual convening place for all.  After Emancipation, five formerly enslaved families met for prayer in the freedman's community of Upper White Rock gathered beneath a simple brush arbor. In 1884, after years of saving, determination, and faithfulness, they purchased property along the White Rock Creek and built a log church. Following a devastating flood in 1918, a local white landowner and former enslaver, donated land on higher grounds and the church moved to its current location on Celestial Road. 

Today, White Rock Chapel continues as a nonprofit still dedicated to ongoing racial reconciliation and mutual understanding of all. For more than a century, despite enduring storms, racism, fire, legal battles and rapid development, the church remains. Your donation supports maintenance and upkeep of the property, ensuring this important history is taught and preserving this sacred legacy for the future.
