By 2030, the generation known as Baby Boomers will have all reached 65 and older. They are projected to make up 20% of the U.S. population at that time. The aging population is set to continue its growth through 2036 before that growth rate levels off. As the county has steadily grown, so has WCOA, and with our first strategic plan in place, we are preparing for the inevitable increase in need due to the rapidly increasing population growth within Collin County.

Although the core programming of the Wellness Center for Older Adults (WCOA) began with preventative healthcare for seniors, we have adapted services over the years to what was needed in the community.
Through our 3 core programming pathways, the Wellness Center is focused on empowering older adults and caregivers to live with dignity, independence, and well-being.
PREVENTATIVE HEALTHCARE
Our registered nurses provide numerous services to help seniors between Medicare visits or when they have extra needs. For many, this is the opportunity to remove the rush and overwhelm of today's medical offices. By providing physical, psychological, and sociological support to those 55 and older, our longer appointments, group education sessions, and personalized care help make this stage of life easier to process. WCOA, through our Nurse Manager, also provides practicum experiences and support for Collin College Nursing students. Preventative healthcare was the beginning of the Wellness Center and remains our highest need of services, making up 63.7% of services provided in 2025.Each appointment focuses on answering questions, talking through medical issues, reviewing medications, and discussing overall health in a 1:1 format sometimes lost in the medical field today. These services help seniors improve hearing aid impact, improve mobility, monitor levels for medical concerns more frequently than allotted by Medicare, and provide a steady social oversight for seniors aging in place. For caregivers who may live out of the area, this provides comfort that someone else shares in caring for their loved ones. Durable medical equipment is also available through our lending closet for those waiting on Medicare approval, post-surgical needs, or trial periods before purchase. From knee scooters to wheelchairs, items are loaned out and returned when no longer needed. This loan program is free of charge.

Aging in place affects everyone in an older adult's life. Those who care for loved ones, especially seniors struggling with dementia or Alzheimer's, this stage of life shifts the entire family dynamic. Family makeup has shifted as well, with many seniors taking on guardianship of grandchildren late in life. Being supported in these life transitions makes all the difference. WCOA provides this integral support via three key methods:
SOCIAL SUPPORTIVE SERVICES
The final piece of the WCOA puzzle is our social supportive services targeting temporary needs of seniors' post procedure, referral information, and addressing the needs of our unhoused (or soon to be homeless) seniors, which is the fasted growing homeless population. Within our social supportive services, WCOA has two primary paths:
