Wise County Committee on Aging, Inc. (Meals on Wheels Wise County TX) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) dedicated to nourishing the bodies and spirits of over 125 homebound seniors throughout Wise County. Each weekday, we deliver hot, nutritious meals—along with a warm smile and a safety check—to seniors who can no longer cook for themselves and who may have no one else to care for them.

For many of our clients, the friendly face of a volunteer driver may be the only human connection they experience that day. It’s not just about meals—it’s about dignity, independence, and community.

As the senior population continues to grow, so does the need. We’re adding new clients every month—and with that, the need for support increases. In addition to meals, we also:

  • Provide transportation to medical appointments, grocery stores, and pharmacies

  • Offer helpful health and nutrition information in a monthly newsletter

  • Connect seniors with local services and help them stay informed with copies of the local newspaper

Mission

The Wise County Committee on Aging is committed to enhancing the quality of life for older adults by providing nutritious meals, compassionate daily contact, transportation, and vital community connections—empowering seniors to live independently and with dignity in their own homes.

Needs

We are in desperate need of a permanent home for our program. Currently, our kitchen operates out of an old elementary school in Chico, while our main office and food distribution hub are located in Decatur. We don’t have a facility where we can serve daily congregate meals under our own roof. We’re dreaming of a single space where we can cook, serve, coordinate, and bring the community together.

As fall and winter approach, our expenses rise and donations tend to drop. This is also when delays in federal funding hit us the hardest. Yet the need doesn’t pause—seniors still need to eat, to connect, and to feel cared for.

We rely on an incredible network of volunteers to keep our wheels turning—quite literally. Without them, we simply couldn’t reach as many people as we do.

This NTX Giving Day, please help us continue to serve the most vulnerable members of our community.Your support provides more than a meal. It delivers hope, independence, and the reassurance that no one is forgotten.

Our greatest need right now is truly a new consolidated facility where we can cook our meals, serve congregate meals on a daily basis and have both our administrative staff and our kitchen staff in one location, along with all of our vehicles. Currently we have our kitchen in an old elementary school building in Chico and our Main office and food distribution center is in Decatur. We do not have our own site to serve congregate meals on a daily basis and have to rely on others to open up their facilities for that.

During the fall and winter, our expenses are higher and donations are lower. This is when our new contract for federal grants starts and over the last 3 years, the funding for the new contracts is very slow to start.

We rely heavily on volunteers to deliver food to all of our client's in the county, and without them we would not be able to feed as many seniors as we do.
