In 2017, a vision sparked the creation of what was initially known as the We Are One Project (WAO), now proudly called the La La Land Foundation. The mission was simple but profound: to provide valuable support and opportunities for fostering youth and individuals in need. In 2019, this vision took a tangible form with the opening of the first La La Land Kind Cafe. Embracing a “teach a person to fish” philosophy, our founder launched the cafe not just as a place to get a meal, but as a platform for change. The cafe offered paid internships specifically designed to help youth transition from foster care into adulthood.

Over time, this internship program has grown and evolved, providing more than just job training. It is a comprehensive support system where interns gain access to crucial resources, including housing assistance and mental health services. Our goal is to ensure that every individual’s needs are met holistically. Beyond the walls of the cafe, we have built strong connections within our communities by partnering with local businesses and organizations. These collaborations help us continue to foster a spirit of kindness and service, enriching the lives of those we serve and strengthening the bonds within our neighborhoods.

Giving Activity

Mission

Our mission is to promote kindness by engaging in acts of service. Our organization is dedicated to making a positive impact in our communities through various means such as volunteering, mentoring, and advocating for important causes.

Needs

Our greatest challenge is ensuring our interns have the transportation and housing they need to succeed. The La La Land Foundation is expanding, and with that growth comes an even greater responsibility to our interns. These young people don’t just learn to be exceptional baristas; they gain invaluable life skills that set them up for a brighter future. They have access to mentoring, mental health resources, and so much more.

But for some, just getting to their internship can be a struggle. We’re deeply committed to making sure that financial barriers never stand in the way of a motivated intern applying for or completing our program. No one should have to choose between an opportunity for growth and the means to get there.

Equity Statement

At La La Land Foundation, we believe in the power of love, kindness, and respect for all people. We are committed to fostering an environment where everyone—regardless of their background, identity, or experience—is not only welcomed but celebrated. We strive to create spaces where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued for who they are.

Our mission is rooted in the belief that love is the foundation of equity. We embrace the uniqueness of each individual and are dedicated to ensuring that everyone has equal opportunities to thrive. We love everyone for who they are and are unwavering in our commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging for all.
