Vogel is Moving Families from Crisis to Stability to Thriving.
Founded in 1987 in Dallas, Texas, Vogel Alcove was created to give families residing in local emergency shelters a safe and nurturing place to leave their young children while they worked to acquire stable employment and housing.
Vogel's Mission: "Helping young children and their families prevent and overcome the lasting and traumatic effects of homelessness and poverty."
Fueled by extensive research from The Annie E. Casey Foundation, Vogel has embraced the "two-generation approach" model to break the cycle of poverty and the devastation of homelessness.
Hope Begins at Vogel When Non-Verbal Children Find their Voices
Our Mission in Action
Vogel is “unique” from other organizations offering childcare because it is the only childcare center exclusively serving North Texas children and their families who are currently homeless or are recovering from homelessness. Almost all of our Vogel families are led by single mothers with no support system to help them.
Vogel offers trauma-informed, quality childcare programming for our children along with play therapy from our child therapists. We utilize a research-based curriculum designed to help children living in traumatic circumstances like homelessness. Our approach helps to improve developmental outcomes, foster social/emotional skills and creates a pathway for success in school. Vogel is among only 5% of early childcare centers nationwide accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
Family Support programming is also provided for the parents of the children we serve. Vogel's Parent Opportunity Center provides educational programs to help parents obtain educational goals and employment opportunities. Mental health care for our parents is also offered without charge from our on-site adult mental health therapist.
The need to serve our families is greater than ever. To respond to our families' needs, we are asking for your support during Early Giving and on North Texas Giving Day to ensure Vogelmaintains the services that have been vital to children and their families since we first opened our doors in 1987.

Vogel's mission is to help young children and their families prevent & overcome the lasting and traumatic effects of homelessness and poverty.
It is our vision that every child in our community has a home, a self-sufficient family, and a foundation for success in school and life. Our programming is culturally competent, holistic, and family-centered. A two-generation approach provides developmental interventions for children while helping parents establish a stable home environment.
Needs
Vogel has been on the move in recent months! We are requesting your donation for our efforts.
Our Vogel North Childcare Center (in North Dallas) opened in December 2023 inside the new Family Gateway North Shelter. This new Vogel Center is currently providing over 100 young children and school age children educational and learning experiences while they are housed in the Family Gateway emergency shelter.
We are also excited to announce our new Vogel Child and Family Center at "The Shops at RedBird" (in Southern Dallas). Operations are scheduled to begin in late 2024. An additional 134 children will receive quality childcare services from our new location.
We hope you will join us and support these exciting new Vogel initiatives with a gift NOW during Early Giving and on this year's North Texas Giving Day (Thursday, September 19th!)
On behalf of everyone with Vogel, "Thank you so much!!"
