Our Story

Since 2011, Under 1 Roof has helped individuals and families across North Texas move from housing crisis toward stability.

Today, our work reaches across Dallas, Collin, Denton, Rockwall, and surrounding counties through a continuum of homelessness prevention, housing, and supportive services. We help families remain in their homes when possible, navigate housing when they are displaced, and access the resources they need to build greater financial and personal stability.

In 2025 alone, Under 1 Roof served 1,512 clients, while thousands more reached out for information, resources, and assistance. Behind every number is a neighbor navigating a moment that could determine whether they remain safely housed.

Our work is strengthened by partnerships with organizations throughout North Texas, allowing families to access coordinated resources that address both immediate housing needs and the barriers that can make stability difficult to maintain.

Your Impact

Housing stability creates the foundation from which so much else becomes possible.

In 2025:

  • 1,512 clients were served across Under 1 Roof programs and services.
  • 86% of clients were housed within 60 days of intake, depending on housing availability.
  • 90% received at least one referral to support their path toward self-sufficiency.
  • 85% met monthly with their case manager to address needs, review goals, and document progress.
  • 36,409 people accessed our website seeking information and resources.
  • Our team received 15,600 voicemail inquiries for support.
  • 92% of organizational expenses went directly to programs.

These numbers demonstrate both the impact of the work and the tremendous need that continues across our region.

Why Your Gift Matters

For many families, homelessness does not begin on the street. It can begin with a rent increase, reduced work hours, an unexpected bill, a family emergency, or one month when there simply is not enough.

That is where Under 1 Roof can step in.

North Texas Giving Day helps us respond before a temporary crisis becomes a housing crisis and helps us walk alongside families who are already experiencing homelessness as they work toward a safe, stable place to call home.

Your gift can help provide rental and utility assistance, housing navigation, individualized case management, employment support, basic household needs, and other resources that help families regain and maintain stability.

The demand is significant. More than 36,000 people came to our website seeking information and resources last year, and our team received 15,600 voicemail inquiries for support.

This North Texas Giving Day, your generosity helps us reach more of our neighbors at the moment they need us most.

Help a family stay housed. Help a neighbor find home. Help build lasting housing stability across North Texas.

Mission

Mission Statement In order to assist persons to become self-reliant, Under 1 Roof provides supportive housing as well as other services to homeless and low-income individuals in addition to families of our community. Our vision is a community where everyone has safe affordable housing and the tools to become self-reliant. To bring that vision into reality, we provide permanent supportive housing to the homeless population in Dallas County.

Needs

Volunteers could assist Under 1 Roof case managers with life skills training, including financial literacy and budgeting skills, job readiness, interviewing techniques, resume writing, and other aspects of healthy adult living.

Volunteers can also help create warm and welcoming homes kits and assist with preparing apartments and houses for families and individuals to move into. Volunteers would have the opportunity to see first-hand what is happening in our communities and how their commitment can impact the lives of others.

Back-to-school and holiday drives are also areas where the agency could use volunteers. Volunteers could have office drives, inventory donated items, and deliver to Under 1 Roof offices.

Equity Statement

Under 1 Roof practices equity and inclusion in their staff and Board of Directors. Executive Director, Verna Jones, MSW, is one of a few Black female Executive Directors in Dallas. The majority of Under 1 Roof Board of Directors and key staff are people of color, reflecting the population the agency serves.

As part of Under 1 Roof’s strategic plan, the Board of Directors has adopted the following focus on equity: Ensuring best practices by evaluating service delivery, establishing diversity/inclusion/ equity standards, reviewing outcome results, and enhancing program delivery to meet the client’s changing needs.
